DEF LEPPARD Singer Joins THIN LIZZY On Stage In Dublin (Video)
February 19, 2011DEF LEPPARD singer Joe Elliott joined THIN LIZZY on stage this past Thursday (February 17) at Olympia Theatre in Dublin, Ireland to perform the LIZZY classic "The Boys Are Back In Town". Fan-filmed video footage of his appearance can be viewed below.
Commented Elliott: "I suppose you could say it was inevitable that I'd be asked to join the boys when they came through Dublin, what with all the close ties we have, with my involvement in the recent remixes and Vivian [Campbell; DEF LEPPARD guitarist] and Ricky [Warwick; also THE ALMIGHTY] in the lineup. It was also the last night of their European tour, so it was totally a party atmosphere — you know, sold-out show, hometown gig, Philomena [Phil Lynott's mother] in the Royal Box!"
"I was watching from a great vantage point and I have to say they were absolutely magnificent! Vivian fits like a glove, perfectly replicating the styles of Eric Bell, Brian Robertson and Gary Moore, but doing it HIS way! Having worked with him now for 19 years I just knew he'd pull it off and there's nobody more happy than me to see him do it, as they're his favorite band. Having done the DOWN 'N' OUTZ, I know exactly how he feels! Ricky was amazing, too; he has all the heart you need to sing Phil Lynott songs and does it in his own style, which fits in perfectly, too.
"I joined them fittingly for 'The Boys Are Back In Town' and I gotta say, it definitely gets you in the mood to play when you get a reaction like they did that night!
"My favorite gig for a long, long time!!"

In a recent interview with Eric Mackinnon of RockAAA.com, THIN LIZZY frontman and THE ALMIGHTY vocalist/guitarist Ricky Warwick stated about joining forces with DEF LEPPARD guitarist Vivian Campbell and ex-WHITESNAKE bassist Marco Mendoza, along with Phil Lynott-era THIN LIZZY members Scott Gorham, Brian Downey and Darren Wharton to tour under the THIN LIZZY banner, "People keep saying to me, 'Those are really big shoes to fill' — but I'm not filling [Phil Lynott's] shoes. There will only ever be one Phil Lynott and that's it. We can't replace him. What we can do is go out there and play his songs with a passion, a spirit and an energy and try to make them as vibrant as we can. And that's what we are doing."
When asked about how he is managing to respect Phil Lynott's lyrics and delivery style, while also trying to inject a little of his own character, Warwick said, "You have to put the Phil-isms into the songs. People need to hear them with the phrasing they know and love. I know when I go and see a band and they screw around with the lyrics or the arrangement too much it ruins it for me. So I'm trying to do 50 percent of that and then put 50 percent of my own personality into it — I have to try and get the balance somewhere along the line."
